United Airlines Director, Information Technology, Food Services Systems in Chicago, Illinois

The Team

This role sits in the Operations and Employee Technology team and will help enable the employees of United Airlines with the best digital tools to excel at their jobs. You’ll focus on improving platforms, developing best-in-class mobile applications to facilitate collaboration and real-time decision making, and delivering on the digital requests of our front-line colleagues & our customers.

The Role

Our Food Services organization is responsible for preparing and delivering inflight and onsite meals for hundreds of United flights daily. They depend on technology to help them do their jobs efficiently. We’re looking for a transformative leader who can partner with other technology teams and our business partners to elevate our kitchens to considering advanced solutions such as mobile capabilities, edge technology, robotics, blockchain, RFID tracking and an implementation of an end to end supply chain system. This role will lead the development, implementation and maintenance of our core Food Services systems. With our future state in mind, you’d develop the strategy for our food service systems and you will empower your team to deliver.

How You Will Contribute

  • Developing deep relationships with business stakeholders is critical. You will partner with them to help understand key business drivers that drive IT decisions.

  • This role directs multiple teams of developers involved in the analysis, design and development of complex and large-scale applications which may include both projects and programs.

  • You’ll ensure our IT team executes against technology priorities and communicates progress to our leaders.

  • In this role, you’ll lead a team. You’re responsible for developing, motivating and rewarding a team of technologists to ensure optimal performance.

  • You’ll be accountable for effective project management and deliver of work ensuring projects are in budget, on time and high quality.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Business Administration required or equivalent experience, master’s degree preferred

  • 10-15 years of management experience in an IT or leadership related role

  • Experience in multiple technical platforms, operating systems, databases and development languages including but not limited to mobile, web, mainframe, Unix and Client Server

  • Experience in transforming legacy IT work streams to mobile platforms

  • Experience with inventory management systems or warehouse systems a plus.

  • Experience in travel industry, especially airline related is a plus
