Technical Operations

Technical Operations is the maintenance, repair and overhaul division of United. The department includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.

Job overview and responsibilities

Lead and direct the Technical Publications department. Responsible for overseeing the authoring, publishing and distribution of company manuals and drawings to maintenance personnel, MROs and the FAA. Manage the technical library and distribution of regulatory and operational documents.

  • Responsible for content creation, processing, assembly and delivery of all Tech Ops policies & procedures manuals to directly support the maintenance, repair and overhaul of the Fleet

  • Maintains a strategic vision to utilize an XML centric modular solution approach for all of Technical Publications

  • Oversee the design, development, testing and production of technical documentation to support AMTS

  • Make technical decisions and maintains schedules and deliverables

  • Monitor and manage the level of quality and currency for all documents

  • Mitigate compliance risk from inaccurate, incomplete or outdated data

  • Coordinate and track multiple projects/documents

  • Improve operational efficiency in authoring, managing and publishing technical data to the end user

  • Coordinate the publication of internal and end-user documentation

  • Identify documentation deliverables and define target audiences for those deliverables complying with CFR 121.137

  • Work with technical support, customers, FAA, partners, vendors and others to address product usability, reliability, performance and functionality issues

  • Coaching and mentoring staff

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

  • Familiarity with Doc-Book or other topic‐based (DITA) writing methodology using publishing software (preferably XMetaL and/or structured software), understand programming languages such as SGML/XML, SQL, JAVA and/or .NET

  • Familiar with XML, S1000D, data tagging and repurposing, and content management systems

  • Familiar with Export Administration Regulations regarding maintenance documentation

  • Strong people and time management skills

  • Strong organizational and problem solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Strong relationship and collaboration skills

  • Proven organization and leadership skills with ability to build, lead, and maintain strong, productive teams and working relationships with internal stakeholders and external customers

  • Capable of guiding teams through retrospectives and other continuous improvement focused initiatives

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with ability to effectively interact at all levels (including executive) and team with all internal and external business partners

  • Very strong and well-developed people leadership and people development skills, both empowering and holding his/her teams accountable for results

  • Must be willing and able to travel (at times extensively)

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
