Job overview and responsibilities

The United Digital Technology team designs, develops, and maintains massively scaling technology solutions that are brought to life with innovative architectures, data analytics, and digital solutions. The department is composed of 5 portfolios: 1. Operations technology (ie for Flight Attendants, Gate Agents, Pilots, etc) 2. Digital channels technology (ie United.com and United app) 3. Digital channels strategy, data analytics, data engineering, and process engineering & efficiency 4. Security, risk, and compliance 5. Infrastructure, cloud & engineering. Placement within the division will be determined during the selection process, depending on the candidates interest ranking and skillset. Projects will vary by group and may include (but are not limited to) the following: 1. Developing on United.com or United app 2. Moving applications to the cloud and developing cloud best practices 3. ensuring application security by addressing vulnerabilities 4. Building bots to automate and increase experiences for customers 5. Supporting the customer experience research program; consisting of competitor/industry/digital experience research, aggregation and interpretation

Job functions will vary based on specific team placement:

  • Security, risk and compliance focuses on ensuring applications are secure by addressing vulnerabilities both proactively and ongoing

  • Infrastructure, cloud and engineering focuses on moving applications to the cloud and developing cloud best practices

  • Operations technology focuses on building and maintaining applications that support our front line employees including but not limited to applications for flight attendants, gate agents, pilots and more

  • Digital Channels technology focuses on building, enhancing and maintaining customer facing applications such as United.com and the United mobile app

  • Digital channels strategy focuses on data analytics, data engineering and process engineering & efficiency

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in process

  • Experience working on individual tasks and projects independently with little direction

  • Knowledge of Data Structures

  • Knowledge of Rest API’s

  • Knowledge of Git/SVN

  • Knowledge of Agile software development cycles

  • Exceptional technical, analytical and problem solving skills required

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Solid interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork

  • Object Oriented Programming

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Preferred

  • Experience working on a fast paced, results oriented team in a summer internship capacity.

  • Knowledge of: WCF, REST, SOAP, ORMs, Python, Java, JavaScript, Vista, Server 2003, Server 2008, Configuration driven application Development, Version control and continuous integration principles, Message queuing systems, and IIS configuration

  • Experience with Test Driven Design

  • Experience with MVC(Model, view, Controller) architecture
