The Emergency Response and Business Continuity team develop, maintain and practice our emergency plans to ensure readiness in the face of any emergency event.
Job overview and responsibilities
The Emergency Response and Business Continuity teams’ mission is to create a culture of preparedness at United Airlines for any type of emergency, including aircraft, natural, or man-made disasters. The goal is to respond effectively to the needs of customers, employees and the company during emergencies, protecting life, assets, and recovering operations as quickly as possible.
The teams are responsible for all facets of emergency response and business continuity. This includes logistical planning, developing, and delivering of training and emergency exercises for all response avenues (stations, call centers, corporate offices, flight training center, maintenance bases, etc.). Other responsibilities of the team include producing manuals and handbooks, performing risk assessments, facilitating Business Impact Analyses, developing Business Continuity plans, and coordinating and managing response to any emergency.
Responsibilities of this internship may include (but are not limited to):
Performing statistical analyses and audits on existing Emergency Response and Business Continuity Plans and if necessary, assisting leadership in creating new plans
Analyzing information gathered on problems and procedures, interpreting data from various sources, and creating dashboards to illustrate findings
Developing internal communications and presentations for leadership
Must be a current undergraduate (junior or senior) or graduate student studying Business Administration, Data Analytics, Management Information Systems, or a related field
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel & PowerPoint)
Previous professional work or internship experience
Strong writing skills and attention to detail
Proven analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to handle simultaneous projects and adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment
Solid interpersonal skills with focus on teamwork
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications
Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
Prior experience with business continuity planning
Experience in the aviation industry
Knowledge of data mining and data visualization (e.g. Spotfire)
