United Airlines Manager - Risk Management Insurance in Chicago, Illinois

Finance : The Finance department, which manages the company's budgets, forecasts, and investments, and provides analysis of our financial performance and strategies.

Job overview and responsibilities:

Reporting to the Managing Director of Treasury Risk / Insurance Management the Risk and Insurance Manager is responsible for development and execution of risk financing strategies for United’s insurable risks; including risk assessment, partnering with the business to promote cost effective risk response, and financing the insurable risks using insurance and other alterative risk financing methods.

  • For assigned risk / insurance programs

  • Identify & assess / measure risks, partner with the business on appropriate risk response. Structure, implement and manage risk financing programs

  • Manage broker engagement including statement of works and contract negotiations with service providers

  • Present / sell United’s risk to insurers including preparing renewal strategy, presentations, submissions to insurers, and negotiate policy terms to optimize value to United and other stakeholders. Manage claims as required.

  • Create presentations to explain risks and risk financing programs to business partners and management

  • Review, consult the business and negotiate with counter-parties risk transfer and insurance contract terms

Required:

  • Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management or equivalent

  • 5+ years in finance, accounting, risk management or other related field

  • Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrated capability to apply finance and risk management principles

  • Strong analytical, savvy communication and good project management skills

  • Experience managing complex projects and external vendors/stakeholders

  • Excellent negotiation skills

  • Experience presenting complex content to senior level executives

  • Advanced Excel skills required including knowledge of pivot tables, lookups and the ability to build complex charts and graphs

  • Advanced knowledge of PowerPoint

  • Other requirements

  • Personal accountability for results and integrity

  • Reliable and punctual

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

Preferred:

  • MBA or similar advanced degree preferred

  • Underwriting or other risk management / insurance company experience

  • Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter or Associate in Risk Management designations
