Powerplant engineers manage the engines on the airplanes and will study, analyze, and seek solutions to problems related to the design, operation, maintenance, performance, modification, or repair of engines, and their components. Use a structured, logical, and analytical approach in problem solving. Defines maintenance program, configuration, and serviceability criteria ensuring safe and legal operations. Analyze and implement regulatory requirements. Evaluate the effects of modifications or new equipment on reliability and performance. Evaluates the benefits of the cost impact of a fleet decision to ensure an optimum balance of cost, asset utilization, quality, and reliability. Author, design, validate, and manage projects. Provide on-site technical support for line and base operations. Communicate and interface with internal and external organizations regarding specific engine and component issues.
Organize and manage priorities to meet project deliverables:
Maintenance program optimization
Reliability analysis and improvements
Support commercial projects
Assist in engine troubleshooting
Monitor engine on wing performance to initiate reliability improvements as needed
Interdepartmental coordination to implement projects
Repairs and/or modifications must also be evaluated to ensure no adverse effect on ETOPS, RVSM, CAT III, etc.
Provides technical engineering services, recommendations and trouble-shooting support to other divisions and personnel involved with aircraft systems
Represent and participate in industry activity with FAA, NTSB, A4A and other external and internal organizations for engines
- B.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
Engineering skill sets which can be applied to a specific engineering discipline
These skills include, but are not limited to, analysis of complex technical issues, highly detailed level project development/management for regulatory compliance modifications, and overall ownership of specific systems.
Successful candidate will also have exhibited traits related to detailed cost/benefit analysis of projects, as well as effectively engaging stakeholders cross-functionally
Successful candidate will also have exhibited effective communication skills
Team player with a positive approach to working together
Knowledge of CFRs, airworthiness design and substantiation criteria, aircraft and engine design and operational characteristics, materials and processes
This position will be hired as either an Engineer-Level 6, Senior Engineer-Level 5 or Principal Engineer-Level 4 based on experience level
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.
Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications.
Candidate must be available for world-wide travel outside of office to cover aircraft pilots, industry travel and business meetings
