The Technical Operations is the maintenance, repair and overhaul division of United. The department includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.

Project Manager - Technical Operation Business Operations

Job overview and responsibilities

The Project Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing a wide variety of projects, ranging from tactical assignments to planning and directing moderate to high complex projects. This position acts in a leadership capacity to ensure projects are in alignment with company objectives and priorities and works in managing projects throughout their lifecycle.

The Project Manager is well versed in project management methodology tools and techniques and possesses strong analytical capabilities. Working closely with the manager and designated stakeholders, the project manager applies project management and analytical knowledge to successfully execute projects. This individual develops and oversees the project scope, timeline, cost and associated risks, when applicable to the project scope. The project manager, as applicable develops comprehensive business cases and conducts benchmarking, SWOT analysis, studies trends and relevant data to successfully achieve project objectives.

The Project Manager will provide direction, guidance, or training as required to others throughout the project lifecycle to include: scoping, development, reporting, implementation, and monitoring/adjustment phases.

Lead small to complex projects:

  • Lead a team (inter or cross departmental/divisional) to achieve a specific project objective

  • Defines and develops project scope, project plan and key risks and mitigation strategies to ensure project success, including department budgeting

  • Conducts data analysis in support of justifying project recommendations

  • Conducts benchmarking, industry and SWOT analysis as applicable for project

  • Provides regular status updates throughout the project lifecycle

  • Develops and delivers effective executive project summaries

Support manager(s) with various assignments:

  • Leads/facilitates project status meetings

  • Works with IT, Talent Acquisition, Technical Operations, and others as needed on defining business requirements ensuring projects remains on track

  • Develops executive summaries for Sr. Manager and others, as needed

  • Supports Tech Ops organization with various analytical assignments

  • May act as designee in the absence of the Senior Manager

  • Performs other tasks as assigned


  • Knowledge in project management tools and techniques

  • 3 years minimum in project management and/or leading broad scope business initiatives

  • Proficient in MS Office and MS Project

  • Excellent written and oral communication

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Knowledgeable in LEAN

  • Ability to create and nourish relationships to effectively facilitate team problem solving

  • Self-motivated, positive work ethic and attitude

  • Must be able to travel 35% of the time


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field, or comparable work experience

  • Budgeting experience (a plus)

  • PMI Certified (a plus)


  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
