About Corporate Finance:

Corporate Finance is responsible for the management of the capital structure which includes assuring that the organization has enough capital available for investment, and that that capital is obtained as efficiently and inexpensively as possible. Specifically, the department is responsible for:

  • the design, development and execution of strategies to optimize the sourcing and funding of United’s capital needs

  • monitoring liquidity balance and identification of capital raising needs required to support enterprise liquidity goals

  • the design, development and management of debt capital strategy (includes working with investment banks to issue capital markets debt including EETCs, unsecured bonds, convertible bonds, working with commercial banks to issue term loans / revolving credit lines andfinancing aircraft through loans, financing airport projects through municipalities, etc.)

  • develop goals, targets and reporting for optimal cash balance, debt balance, , capital allocation and unencumbered assets

  • working cross-functionally across the organization during monthly- and quarterly- close to provide timely and accurate reporting of debt obligations, debt payments, debt balances, interest expense, share count, fair value analyses, etc.

  • preparing Board of Director and Officer presentations as needed

  • managing the relationship with the credit ratings agencies (forecasting future ratings agency metrics, understanding opportunities to improve ratings, explaining current ratings, etc.)

  • understanding enterprise-wide capital initiatives (including fleet commitments) in order to determine funding requirements

  • a variety of ad hoc analyses, including but not limited to:

  • lease versus buy decisions

  • identifying the optimal mix of fixed versus floating debt

  • evaluation of interest rate / currency hedge / fuel hedge opportunities

Position reports to Managing Director of Corporate Finance and offers excellent visibility to Treasurer and CFO.

  • Primary contact person for all municipal financing needs both within the company working with Corporate Real Estate, Legal, Tax, Accounting, Financial Planning and Treasury Operations, and external contacts including investment banks, outside counsel and municipalities

  • Responsible for share buyback program design through working with Treasurer, CFO and Board of Directors to meet their objectives for each program as well as the implementation, monitoring and reporting of the program management of $3.5B term loan and revolver including tracking market conditions, ongoing collateral compliance, analysis around financing strategy and tracking of fee wallet of revolving lenders

  • Unsecured bond portfolio management and financing strategy as it pertains to balance sheet and liquidity objectives

  • Responsible for fuel price monitoring and for analysis of various fuel hedging strategies


  • MBA with concentration in business or economics

  • 5+ years of experience in an analytical financial role

  • Exceptional MS Excel skills (and a desire to work extensively within Excel) and solid Office skills

  • Self-starter and “quick study”

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

  • Desire to identify ways to improve processes

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position


  • MBA with concentration in finance

  • Corporate finance or treasury experience, knowledge of municipal financing concepts
