United Airlines Senior Manager - IT Strategic Planning and Communications in Chicago, Illinois

Overview

The Senior Manager of IT Strategy is responsible for planning, developing, communicating and monitoring key strategies and initiatives for the IT division. Additionally, the Senior Manager will be involved in driving organizational and process efficiencies, facilitating development and integration of IT functional strategies, and leading the research agenda for identifying and analyzing opportunities to leverage emerging technologies. This role will also provide leadership and mentoring to the organization around communications, roadmap development, and analytical decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and coordinates the framework for IT strategy development that aligns to business objectives

  • Works with IT organization leaders to determine and align short and long-term goals, identify areas of opportunity, risk, benefit and potential growth and implement action plans for division to achieve long-term objectives

  • Develops communication on behalf of the CIO and IT VPs ranging from Board of Directors to follow up correspondence related to various initiatives

  • Analyzes, aggregates, and aligns individual functional plans into consistent, consolidated 3-5 year IT division strategic plan, and translates strategy into operating/financial metrics

  • Leads research function to analyze and benchmark technology capabilities across industry, competitors and IT functions, and manages advisory services contracts/relationships

  • Conducts and assess risk/reward analysis and facilitates decision making meetings

  • Prepares analysis and develops proposals/recommendations for technology teams as appropriate

  • Helps manage IT brand by discovering, writing and sharing important and inspiring IT success stories

  • Manages team of analysts and/or senior analysts; mentor team through talent and skill development

  • 5+ years in strategic planning and technology-oriented analysis required

  • 3 years of relevant industry experience required
