Job overview and responsibilities

The Senior Manager of Procurement performs a combination of duties in support of the strategy, performance, relationship, and contract management. He or she will lead as an individual contributor on key accounts, as well as manage and develop a strong team. Must have experience managing a team, developing leaders, analyzing new business opportunities and building strong relationships, driving significant top and bottom line results, and be comfortable managing multiple responsibilities within a fast-paced environment.

  • Primary Category focus will be on all UA’s strategic suppliers: (examples include software/hardware and labor)

  • Implement and execute the vendor management strategy and enterprise-wide governance, ensuring that United Airlines vendors are delivering maximum value through their services

  • Execute strategic sourcing strategies, best practices, and initiatives that support improvements in supplier quality, total cost effectiveness, enhanced service levels, improved coordination, delivery, and risk compliance

  • Develop negotiation strategies, gain alignment from stakeholders, lead cross-functional teams, and provide procurement category managers input to maximize leverage

  • Manage vendors to meet UA's strategic goals including long-term planning, and innovation and roadmap development

  • Analyze vendor spend by category, cost center, region and vendor in order to create strategic initiatives to optimize enterprise spend

  • Manage vendor performance against SLAs to ensure optimal service

  • Assist the Sr. Manager and Director of Vendor Management in the development and achievement of the goals of the team

  • Implement aspects of vendor management strategy, working closely with IT, legal and procurement

  • Interact, and develop relationships, with vendors, business and IT executives, industry peers, and industry analysts in alignment with United's strategy and key objectives

  • Create and maintain an approved enterprise wide vendor database and tracking system

  • Work collaboratively with vendors and vendor managers in the creation of scorecards, planning of strategic vendor meetings and operational reviews

  • Hold vendors accountable to established performance metrics through regular governance and management of contract terms

  • Create improvement plans for vendors, analyze problem areas and help resolve disputes

  • Manage a team of highly talented procurement and vendor management analysts

  • Develop goals, performance metrics, and leadership attributes to maximize value from the organization

  • Conduct ongoing performance discussions and provide direct feedback to the team for areas of growth

  • Engage in ongoing career development and training opportunities for Leaders

  • Prioritize and delegate project work to the team based on importance and alignment to skills

  • Maximize the delivery from the team by identifying process improvements

Required

  • Bachelor Degree in Business, IT, Finance, Supply Chain Management/Procurement or 4 plus years working in managing supplier relationships, contracts, and vendor management

  • Analytical in his or her approach to problem solving, with attention to results and with a sense of urgency

  • Strong people skills - able to work in a cross team collaborative environment in order to achieve results

  • Strong project and process management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities, projects and a wide range of tasks

  • 3 plus years working in Vendor Management/Procurement, Sourcing

  • 3 plus years in managing direct reports

  • Self-starter with high degree of initiative and the ability to manage deadlines

  • Strong working knowledge of vendor governance process

  • Excellent problem solving skills and ability to use good judgment to make decisions

  • Strong analytical skills and desire to research problems to seek resolution

  • Proficient in MS Office products, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
