The Finance department, which manages the company's budgets, forecasts and investments, and provides analysis of our financial performance and strategies.

Job overview and responsibilities

The Senior Manager – Strategic Planning and Integration role reports directly to the VP and CFO-Commercial. This role acts as a key resource to the CFO Commercial and within the Finance department. Through close collaboration with the Commercial Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Leadership team, business partners and other key stakeholders, this role will partner to drive both tactical and strategic initiatives within the department.

Strategic Planning, Coordination and Integration

  • Work with Commercial FP&A team members and business partners to frame complex and unique problems by diagnosing gaps related to performance, people, processes, and structure

  • Bridge the gap between what the business needs, what is developed within the Commercial FP&A team to address those needs, and how the solutions are implemented, with the goal of driving efficiency across the Finance organization while maximizing United’s earnings

Large-Scale Projects

  • Facilitate, develop and maintain tracking of high profile, critical projects that involve multiple functional areas within FP&A and/or across the company

  • Ensure the needs of the enterprise and Finance are conveyed, progress is made in a timely and effective manner, and the CFO-Commercial is kept advised of project status, issues that impact successful execution and variations from schedule or scope


  • Analyze data and stakeholder feedback on various programs and initiatives to drive sustained behavior change and achieve business results; this includes identifying success metrics and providing recommendations to guide strategic direction

Communication and Change Management

  • Create and deliver innovative communication solutions that drive alignment and engagement across the Commercial FP&A team

  • Encourage communication between various functional areas within Finance

  • Create a common understanding within and across the organization, and support organizational initiatives

  • Manage digital communications for CFO-Commercial


  • Strong business acumen, and understanding of the business (both FP&A, Commercial functional areas and United as a company)

  • Strategic thinker

  • Excellent consultative/coaching/collaboration/influencing skills required, including proven ability in establishing credibility and demonstrating diplomacy when managing multiple stakeholders and conflicting priorities

  • Ability to drive clarity from ambiguity and adapt quickly to a changing environment

  • Creative and innovative approach to problem solving

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Able to work effectively at all levels in an organization

  • Strong PowerPoint and excel skills with the proven ability to evaluate and interpret

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Minimum five years related work experience

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position


  • Master's in Business Administration, Accounting or related field

  • Financial Planning and Analysis experience

  • Experience managing a multi-million dollar budget or complete P&L
