Technical Operations

Technical Operations is the maintenance, repair and overhaul division of United. The department includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more

Job overview and responsibilities

Leads and manages the analysis and surveillance program to assure the performance of the maintenance, inspection, fueling & technical programs meet the requirements for UAL’s Part 121 & 145 operations. Contributes to strategic direction of the team. Represents United Airlines and the Quality Assurance Department at various industry and company meetings.

  • Manages audit and surveillance program to assure compliance with the continuous surveillance requirements for the Part 121 & 145 operation

  • Performs onsite and system audits within Technical Operations Division including its external suppliers of maintenance, engineering and aircraft products to assure compliance with UAL & FAA approved policies, procedures and FAR requirements

  • Analyze audit and investigation data for trends, facilitate process improvements & provide routine reports

  • Investigate significant regulatory non-compliance or quality escape events to seek root cause and prevent recurrence

  • Collaborate with reliability & other relevant programs to reverse discrepant trends

  • Manages the Quality Assurance Policy and Procedures manual


  • B. S. aviation or engineering, or four equivalent years of technical operations experience

  • FAA A & P license or four equivalent years of technical operations experience

  • Thorough understanding of quality assurance management principles, FAA 14CFR, EASA air carrier requirements& the proven skills to implement quality assurance management systems

  • 10 years of experience in maintenance, engineering or inspection of heavy commercial aircraft

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position


  • Masters Degree in business or in a technical field or three years in maintenance management

  • American Society of Quality or other relevant certification

  • Thorough understanding of FAA Part 121, 145 and foreign states’ repair station requirements & the proven skills to implement quality assurance management systems

  • 5 years of experience as a manager in a quality field
