Technical Operations

Technical Operations is the maintenance, repair and overhaul division of United. The department includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.

Job overview and responsibilities

The Senior Strategic Business Operations Analyst is responsible for evaluating performance metrics, KPIs and other datasets with the mission of finding areas of focused improvement opportunities throughout the multiple levels of United’s Supply Chain ecosystem. The analyst is to be the business support agent to Tech Ops customers, ensure that business intelligence is being brought and taught to the frontline. Additionally, maintaining and punctually reporting out key measures to executive audiences in well-articulated and professional formats is expected. Simplistically put, the analyst is responsible for helping plan the future through the use of descriptive, predictive and prescriptive analytics.

• Provide ad-hoc analysis to Supply Chain and other Maintenance Division’s customers that helps meet operational and financial objectives

• Identify opportunities and strategies to improve and augment business processes through data analysis and visualization

• Develop and validate models and evaluation metrics (notice models are more important) to analyze business performance and areas of opportunity and improve processes

• Continuously develop and demonstrate improved analysis methodologies to evaluate, test, and recommend new opportunities for enhancing processes

• Coordinate the timely and accurate reporting of the Supply Chain’s control towers and provide routine financial and operational performance reports

• Initiate and coordinate projects to develop improved processes and procedures across the Supply Chain organization. Advise Supply Chain staff personnel on effective business procedures


• BS/BA degree in related disciplines or equivalent work experience

• 2+ years in operational and financial performance reporting and analysis

• Strong leadership and communication skills

• In depth knowledge of financial management and analysis

• Self-motivated, focused attention to detail and a hunger for learning

• Engrained Continuous Improvement management style

• Strong analytical and organizational skills

• Ability to communicate to senior level positions with clarity and confidence

• Advanced skill in Microsoft Excel and other analytical suites

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

• Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

• Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

• SQL, SAS, Tableau, R, Python, Palantir and SpotFire programming knowledge


• MBA or Masters in Supply Chain, Operations, Logistics or Industrial Engineering

• Six Sigma trained

• PMI affiliated

• Experience in data science
