Job overview and responsibilities

The Staff Representative - Flight Operations Safety Management System (SMS) assists in the development, implementation, integration, and coordination of Flight Operations SMS program elements and data streams (FSAP, FOQA, Line Checks, and AQP) with the overall Corporate SMS.

The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Participates in the ongoing development, implementation, administration, and monitoring of the Flight Operations Safety Management System

  • Assists the Senior Manager - Flight Operations Safety Management System (SMS) with the development and writing of internal Flight Standards policy and procedures manuals, such as Business Manuals, Company Flight Manuals, Flight Standards Policy and Procedures manuals, Safety Management System, etc. to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, laws, and policies pertaining to Flight Operation's role in SMS

  • Coordinates with the Manager of Flight Operations Quality Control to develop and manage internal audits

  • Surveys Flight Operations for SMS regulatory compliance

  • Teaches SMS classes to Flight Operations Division personnel

  • Assists in the development of the SMS database and ongoing monitoring in all areas concerning Flight Operations SMS

  • Prepares and presents Flight Operations SMS reports and briefings

  • Acts as liaison with Flight Operations Quality Control for all external audits, such as FAA SAIs, DOD, IOSA inspections, etc. and as a liaison between various Flight Operations locations and the Senior Manager – Flight Operations SMS to the Corporate SMS Manager

  • Coordinates with other Company Departments and Divisions on operational safety issues

  • Evaluates and responds to safety or regulatory issues reported by Flight Operations employees

  • Assists and supports the Senior Manager – Flight Operations SMS in the application and administration of SMS fundamentals throughout the Flight Operations Division

  • Supports Flight Operations in the implementation and future development of SMS policies and procedures through reviews of audit findings and trends to identify systemic problem areas, and develops / implements appropriate programs and corrective actions

  • Coordinates with the Senior Manager – Flight Operations SMS to plan and facilitate regular Flight Operations Safety Action Team (SAT) and Safety Round Table (SRT) meetings

  • Prepares, edits, posts, and disseminates minutes from the Flight Operations SAT and SRT meetings

  • Reviews all Flight Operations data streams for trend identification and analysis

  • Monitors Flight Operations' corrective action responses to FAA regarding the auditing program to ensure commitments are maintained

  • Participates in appropriate industry SMS training programs and forums

  • Provides a continuously measured system of processes and data using safety trends for Flight Operations to continually monitor and enhance our safety margins by assessing threats and mitigating them by various corrective actions

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager – Flight Operations SMS

Required

  • Bachelors Degree

  • Solid Communication, interpersonal and leadership skills

  • 2-4 years experience in Safety

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Preferred

  • 2-4 years experience in Flight Operations QC

  • 2-4 years experience in part 121 Airline Operations
