Technical Operations/Maintenance

Technical Operations includes the maintenance, repair and overhaul of our aircraft. This includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.

Job overview and responsibilities

This position is responsible for research, analysis, procurement, and allocation of Aircraft Tooling for the entire United system.

  • Reports to Maintenance Operations Tooling Manager

  • Provide and maintain tooling model requirements per type of maintenance and type of aircraft

  • Consistently evaluate and review assigned fleet tooling allocations when the fleet schedule changes

  • Contribute to continuous improvement and cost saving initiatives as they relate to aircraft tooling

  • Coordinate with Tool and Fleet Engineering to review tool/equipment technical documents, tool change bulletins and recall projects for tool modification

  • Assist with AOG expedites to support the Hub/Line and Outside Vendor (OSV) operation

  • Send Request For Quote (RFQ) to evaluate and negotiate price points / lead times and sense of urgency for purchase from a multitude of external tool vendors

  • Responsible for the assignment of Property Control (PC) numbers and establish asset tracking requirements

  • Collaborates with Line / Base maintenance operations to manage the tooling system distribution using SCEPTRE/eTIPS

  • Provide OSV start-ups with the required tooling

  • Review surplus and spare tooling inventory on a continual basis

  • Provide system logistical support, monitors daily Out-Of-Service (OOS) and Broken Work reports, represents the Tooling Group on the Daily Operational Report (DOR) call

  • Support QA / QC audits and perform periodic tooling audits through-out operation


  • A & P License

  • BA/BS Degree and/or applicable Line or Base Aircraft Maintenance experience

  • Experience working in a role that includes working with a unionized labor workforce

  • Experience as a Tactical, Line, or Field Planner

  • 3 years in Line or Base Maintenance environment

  • Demonstrate analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Must be able to work independently and in a Team Environment

  • Strong oral and written communication skills for various audiences, including senior leadership

  • Extensive knowledge of aircraft maintenance operations and familiar with applicable FAA regulations (Part 121 and 145)

  • Strong background and technical knowledge of aviation maintenance and maintenance programs

  • Proficient in using Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) and the ability to read and Interpret Tool Drawings as needed

  • Perform detailed analysis on tooling procurement and make decisions with little to no supervision

  • Travel up to 25% of time

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Position requires being in the office at assigned job location

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
