In this role as a Principal Developer on our Digital Technology team, you will serve as a respected technical leader and set the direction of our digital solutions supporting United’s Technical Operations team. United’s Technical Operations team is one of the largest Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) organizations in the world. Our team continually innovates to deliver digital solutions to support this complex, dynamic operation. Principal Developers on our team are hands-on problem solvers focused on our most complex and interesting challenges and are as comfortable in code as well as in architecture. They are leaders who help to mentor, coach, and grow other developers.

This role is looking for a full stack developer with strong experience spanning front-end development (React, Angular, Javascript, HTML/CSS), services development with C#/.Net Core, and AWS.

Key responsibilities:

  • Leads the design, development, and planning for solutions and technology standards to solve complex business problems.

  • Architect AWS-based as well as on-prem solutions and establish common design patterns to be used across the Tech Ops portfolio

  • Partner with other Principal Developers to define the long-term technical vision and roadmap for the Tech Ops DT team

  • Hands-on development, support and troubleshoot software systems as required, optimizing performance, resolving problems, and providing follow-up on all issues and solutions.

  • Consult across multiple projects to provide technical leadership and guidance.

  • Ensure consistency and alignment to enterprise application and architecture standards and guiding principles throughout the application lifecycle.

  • Identify opportunities to leverage/influence the direction for existing infrastructure and application components.

  • Keep abreast of industry trends through benchmarking, participation in professional associations etc. to effectively advise others of strategic technology direction.

  • Mentor and coach junior and senior level developers, both formally and informally

Qualifications – Required

  • Bachelor’s in computer science/Information Technology or related field

  • 5+ years of experience as a lead developer, technical manager, or other leadership role

  • 7+ years of experience in .Net, .Net Core, C#, MVC

  • 7+ years of experience in front-end/UI development (HTML, CSS, React, Angular, or other Javascript-based UI frameworks)

  • 3+ years of experience building, deploying, and managing container-based and serverless applications using AWS (Lambda, EKS/ECS, RDS, Dynamo, Cloudfront, and related services)

  • 3+ years of experience developing and implementing enterprise-scale design patterns.

  • Hands-on experience developing applications using a microservices-based architecture.

  • Strong understanding of development best practices, design patterns, and standards

  • Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Proven track-record of ownership and delivery

  • In-depth applied knowledge of agile software development methodologies (e.g. Scrum, Kanban, XP, etc.)

  • Strong communication skills and ability to clearly present ideas to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences

  • A passion for details and quality in delivery

  • Strong planning and organizational skills

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.

Qualifications – Preferred

  • Working knowledge or experience with GraphQL

  • Working knowledge or experience with SQL Server/T-SQL

  • Aviation or MRO industry experience or knowledge

  • Experience with MS Team Foundation Server/Azure DevOps
