Job overview and responsibilities
As a Principal Database Administrator at United Airlines, you’ll be responsible for activities and projects related to the design, development, implementation, and support of United's complex, highly-available, 24x7, Microsoft SQL Server databases. You’ll align with the United’s Self Service eCommerce, Airline Operations, and IT Infrastructure verticals to deliver available, stable, and performant database services to achieve customer and business objectives.Leads a team of DBA’s in the designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise standard databases based on business area requirements. Drives the identification, definition, and implementation of database backup/recovery and security strategies. Install and support DBNS (Database Management Systems) software and tools. Responsible for various database activities, which include monitoring, tuning, capacity, troubleshooting, and consulting.
Provide deep technical knowledge and leadership to a team responsible for the support of Microsoft SQL Server databases in a 24x7 highly available environment including follow-the-sun team members. Including participation in on-call and escalation responsibilities placing database security at the forefront.
Considered highly skilled and proficient in SQL DBA discipline. Works under minimal supervision with wide latitude for independent judgment. Typically requires 10+ years’ experience in a mission critical production database environment, including SQL 2008, 2012, 2014 and 2016.
Strong background and experience with all BC and DR capabilities of Microsoft SQL Server with a practical understanding of other Infrastructure BC/DC capabilities. Including Always-On , Mirroring, Log Shipping, Clustering and mirroring.Metric driven individual leveraging capacity planning and trending to proactively identify potential problems and mitigate before they result in customer impact.
Collaborate both vertically and horizontally to evolve overall database services and technology strategies.Translate a logical data model or user specifications into a physical design.
BS/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, related discipline or 5 years of equivalent work experience
5 years of IT experience
5 Years of recent SQL DBA experience
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
