The Catering Operations department develops, creates and provides the great dining experiences on board our aircraft and ensures the catering operation goes smoothly.

Job overview and responsibilities

Supervises one key functional department under a Manager. This individual is measured upon achieving financial, operational, regulatory and service level performance directly through the performance of their leads and employees. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, managing the planning and scheduling of resources, coaching and development of leads and employees, and communication, reporting and administrative activities. Serves as the subject matter expert for safety, service and procedures or improvement activities.

Active Supervision

  • Supervise shift employees and runs the day to day departmental and/or overall operation.

  • Responsible for departmental and facility quality, productivity, overall performance, food safety compliance, regulatory compliance and departmental safety programs. Responsible for ensuring departmental goals and objectives are met.

  • Conduct Active supervision Tours (AST) to ensure the operation is functioning according to plan. If variances are identified - define, understanding, address and communicate an action plan.

  • Conduct daily kick-off meetings with employee's and communicate previous performance and the plan for each shift.

  • Mobilize Employees through setting objectives and expectations while follow-up to recognize success. Ability to drive company vehicles on AOA for training and observations.

Admin

  • Assists leader to coordinate production schedules with other departments to meet overall operational needs of the kitchen.

  • Responsible for employee scheduling, attendance, discipline and payroll.

  • Participates with kitchen and corporate resources to implement Lean processes and objective into the production process.

  • Attend daily Shift Meeting

Passive Supervision

  • Respond to issues in a timely manner, identify an action plan, implement and report out the variance to the manager.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned around the 5 axis of performance - Quality, Customer Service, Health and Safety, Environment, and Productivity.

Training, Coaching & Shift Management

  • Regular development, training and coaching of the employees to grow United organization from the front lines.

  • Complete Variance Control reports, daily shift reports and productivity reports.

Required

  • High School Diploma/GED or education equivalent

  • Experience in catering/ food services operations/ food preparation

  • Lean Manufacturing (7 wastes, problem solving, action plans)

  • 1+ years of operational experience

  • Strong knowledge of productivity and experience impacting results

  • Understanding of resource planning/scheduling tools/models

  • Knowledge of email applications (e.g., Outlook)

  • General knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point)

  • Knowledge of food preparation

  • Knowledge of proper food safety

  • Ability to:

  • Make difficult decisions in a timely manner

  • Prioritize work, and effectively manage time

  • Willing and able to work various shifts within a 24/7 operations, including weekends and holidays

  • Willing and able to work in temperature controlled (cold) production areas

Preferred

  • FSMA

  • HACCP

  • ServSafe

  • BA/BS or Master's degree OR Five or more years work experience equivalent to a BA/BS/MA/MS

  • Experience supervising union personnel

  • Lean Six Sigma Certification / Continuous Improvement experience

  • Experience working in a high volume, food manufacturing, food production, or catering environment

  • Experience working in the airline industry

  • Experience in inflight catering

  • Food preparation experience

  • Food handling experience

  • Experience working with a diverse workforce

  • 3 years in catering/food services operations

  • Fluent in Spanish and/or another second language
